A view from 1939:

FORSYTH, (2,515 alt., 1,591 pop.), the seat of Rosebud County, was named for Gen. James W. Forsyth, who landed here from a river steamer before there was a town and later wrote A Report of an Expedition up the Yellowstone River in 1875. Indians from the Tongue River reservation come here to trade and visit.
