Galen
A view from 1939:
Galen, the State Tuberculosis Sanitarium (open daily 3:30-3:30).
This plant, founded in 1912, has grown slowly until it consists
of ten main buildings and six cottages. Preference is given
to county charges and ex-service men, and, because of the limited
facilities, they are almost the only persons admitted. More
than half the patients are women. One-fifth of the men admitted
are victims of silicosis.
