Lump Gulch City

Abandoned Mine Historical Narratives
A view from 1939: LUMP CITY, (4,850 alt.), the scene of
extensive silver mining in the past. The Liverpool, most
noteworthy of the mines in and about Clancey, produced $1,500,000
in the late 1890's. Ore from the Clancey district was so
rich that it could be hauled by bull team to Fort Benton,
shipped by river and ocean to Swansea, Wales, and still net
a profit. The only thing left of the once lively mining town
is a dilapidated, weather-worn schoolhouse inhabited by mountain
rats.
