A view from 1939:
SCOBEY, (2,450 alt., 1,259 pop), is the seat of Daniels
County. Six large grain elevators rising from the prairie
are evidence of the fertility of the surrounding country.
During the World War and the following boom times, especially
the years 1927-28, Scobey was one of the most important primary
wheat markets in the Northwest. Since the drought began the
lines of wagons waiting by the elevators have been much shorter
than formerly.
