Montana
A view from 1939:
HAYS, (3,550 alt., 20 pop.), is an Indian town. It
comes to life once a year—in September when the Indians
hold their fair. Then dancing and singing goes on in the street,
games are played and races run. Gay native trappings vie with
the gaudiest products of white man's manufacture. Intricate
beadwork is often seen.
