A view from 1939:
SUN RIVER, (3,416 alt., 57 pop.), one
of the oldest settlements in the State, is at the old Sun River
crossing on the trail between Fort Benton and the gold camps.
Before the railroads came, it was a lively place—a rendezvous
for cowboys, bullwhackers, mule skinners, and trappers. Thousands
of gold seekers and settlers passed through it.
