A view from 1939:
WILSALL, (5,048 alt., 413 pop.), at
the northern end of a Northern Pacific Ry. spur, depends on
the shipping and trade of homesteaders in the upper Shields
River Valley, a region producing wheat, seed peas, hay, and
livestock. The town's name is a combination of Will and Sal,
nicknames of the children of an early settler.
